M.R.J.H.S. Highlights

On Friday, Nov. 9, a Remembrance Day service was held in our auditorium. Following the national anthem, led by the choir, principal H.L. Draper gave a short address which told of the Vimy Ridge Memorial. Following, the choir sang the Remembrance Day hymn, “O God of Love”. Marsha Gregory recited “The Soldier” by Rupert Brooke and Alana Olsen recited “In Flanders Fields” by John McCrea. The service closed with the singing of The Queen.

During the week a group of students prepared, in the showcase, a very appropriate display of the Vimy Ridge Memorial surrounded by pictures of the war.

On November 13, report cards were handed out to the students.

A parent-teacher conference night in the manner of the one held recently at the Senior High School has been planned for our school. Because of a large response to this idea there are two separate nights being set aside for the conferences. The first, Monday, Nov. 26, will be for parents whose surnames begin with the letters A to M, and Thursday, Nov. 29 for parents with surnames beginning with letters from M to Z.

SPORTS: Volleyball

On Nov. 22 several of our volleyball teams travelled to Pitt Meadows where they made out successfully.

The Junior “A” boys’ team won over the Pitt Meadows team, defeating them two games to one, as did the Junior “B” boys’ team, two games to none. The senior “B” boys’ team, which had been made up rather hurriedly, lost both of two games, even though the scores were quite close.

The Senior “A” and “B” girls’ teams each won both their games, as did the Senior “A” boys’ team.

Meanwhile, in our gym, the Junior “A” and “B” girls’ teams each lost, two games to one, to Garibaldi.

House scores will be in next week’s paper.
